(MANDAN, ND) – A company being levied $660 million in damages against is asking a judge to reduce the amount.
Earlier this year, a North Dakota District Court Judge ruled that Energy Transfer was to be awarded more than $660 million in damages due to damages stemming from protests relating to the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Atorneys argued that damages awarded exceed what is allowed by the law and bear no reasonable relationship to Energy Transfer’s alleged damages. Kristin Casper, General Counsel for Greenpeace International, said the company ‘presented compelling arguments to reduce the perverse damages the jury awarded.’ An attorney for Greenpeace USA said the company would ‘continue to fight back against all attempts to silence and intimidate those speaking truth to power.’
The issue will be back in front of a judge on May 27.
