North Dakota Rep. Cindy Schreiber-Beck dies

(WAHPETON, ND) – Longtime North Dakota legislator Cindy Schreiber-Beck has died.

The Republican, who served in the North Dakota House representing District 25 out of Wahpeton, was 70 years old.

Wahpeton Police Chief Matthew Anderson tells Flag Family News that his officers assisted the Wahpeton Police Department on a call for service in regards to a welfare check at Schreiber-Beck’s home Sunday, where they found her dead. He says his officers assisting Richland County Sheriffs Office as their deputies were out working in the county at the time of the call, and their jurisdictional boundary was near the home.

Saying the party is “deeply saddened” by the news, North Dakota Republican Party Chairwoman Sandi Sanford called her “a dedicated public servant, aviation advocate, and community leader.”

Schreiber-Beck served in the North Dakota House since 2015, working on the Agriculture Committee and Education Committee where she held the role of vice chair during the recently ended 69th Legislative Assembly.

“Cindy Schreiber-Beck served the citizens of North Dakota with a quiet strength and determination that touched so many facets of life, from agriculture and aviation to education and community development, and it was an honor to call her a friend,” said Governor Kelly Armstrong in a statment.

Armstrong has directed all U.S. and North Dakota flags to be flown at half-staff from dawn to dusk on the day of Schreiber-Beck’s interment next week, and encourages North Dakotans to do the same at their homes and businesses as a mark of respect.

Rep. Alisa Mitskog, who served with Schreiber-Beck in representing Wahpeton, also released a statement about the “sudden loss of my legislative partner and dear friend.”

“Cindy loved our community and worked tirelessly for our neighbors in southeast North Dakota. From K-12 and higher education to agriculture and aeronautics, Cindy gave her all to move our state forward. North Dakota will miss her leadership, and I will miss my friend.”

Earlier this year, Schreiber-Beck became the 50th person to ever be inducted into the North Dakota Aviation Hall of Fame.

Visitation hours and a funeral are scheduled for Wednesday May 28 at the Fargo Air Museum.

According to the Boulger Funeral Home, visitation hours will begin at 2pm lasting until 4pm followed by a funeral service at the museum located at 1609 19th Avenue North.
