Cell phone left on plane’s wing falls off after takeoff triggering crash alert in Moorhead

Moorhead, M.N. – An initial call about a possible plane crash this morning in Moorhead turned out to be a false alarm thanks to a cell phone that was left on a plane’s wing and fell off soon after takeoff.

A spokesperson at Moorhead Municipal Airport says the device then triggered an alert about a plane crash.

Cell phones now have crash detection features installed that send signals to emergency personnel.

Valley News Live reports it appears the pilot was the person who left the phone on the wing.

Police and fire crews got a call before 10am and responded to the scene, but found no signs of a crash and cleared the scene.
