WASHINGTON – A man mistakenly deported by The White House is headed back to the United States to face criminal charges.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia was sent to a prison in El Salvador, his home country, from Maryland on what the Trump administration originally said was an “administrative error” that violated a court order, but later said he was a member of the MS-13 gang and argued he should not be returned to the U.S..
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi says he made more than 100 human smuggling trips into the U.S., and will be returned to El Salvador once he’s found guilty and serves his sentence.
A federal grand jury in Tennessee has indicted Abrego Garcia on federal charges in for alleged years-long operation to haul migrants, including MS-13 members, from Texas to the middle of the country.
Abrego Garcia became a rallying point for Democrats opposed to Trump’s illegal immigration crackdown saying he was deported without due process.
