Dean Hornbacher, son of late founder of Hornbacher’s grocery chain, dies at 79

Fargo, N.D. – Dean Hornbacher, whose father created the Hornbacher grocery store chain, died last weekend at the age of 79.

According to an obituary at the Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home website, Hornbacher died at the Sanford Fargo Hospice House on Saturday June 21st.

Dean’s father, Ted, founded their first store with a business partner in 1951 in Moorhead.

The chain grew to eight locations across the Fargo-Moorhead area bearing the family name.

Dean Hornbacher retired in 2010 after working for his family business for decades.

The funeral home says the family will hold a private memorial service.
