Fargo, N.D. – People living in what is typically a quiet residential section of south Fargo recently captured people on video walking suspiciously through their neighborhood peeking into parked vehicles in the wee hours of the morning.
Flag Family News obtained home surveillance footage from Friday June 27th showing the pair peering into parked cars in the 2600 block of 12th Street South.
The clip shows the two, with hoodies up, surrounding a pickup truck in a private residential driveway.
In the video, the footage, which was captured at 2:53am, shows one of them grabbing the driver’s side door handle and shining what appeared to be a flashlight through the window.
A second suspect was seen walking along the sidewalk in front of the pickup truck.
The two eventually walked away from the truck and out of view as the video ended.
“It just makes me irritated,” said Ben Kohlhaas, whose outdoor home security system sent a notification to his phone and woke him up about the criminal activity involving his truck.
“We work hard for what we have and it’s a little disheartening.”
And the suspects also set their sights on other potential targets on the same block before stumbling on to his vehicle.
“I looked at another camera of ours with a wider angle and you can see [the suspects] flashing lights into a couple of parked cars on the street,” said Kohlhaas, who says the second video was unfortunately unable to be recovered after viewing.
Kohlhass says someone later messaged his wife online to share an unconfirmed report that people were breaking into condominium garages across the street that very same week on Monday.
But it’s unclear if the attempted car break-ins are related to that other possible case.

Kohlhaas says he never saw any police vehicles in the area that Monday responding to the alleged condo garage crime.
“We have a pretty quiet neighborhood,” said Kohlhaas, who believes the suspects were young kids.
“I don’t fear for anything but it’s more disheartening than anything that people have to do that.”
The couple texted the information about the attempted car break-ins to the Fargo Police Department tip line.
“It’s bad to see,” said Kohlhass on the new criminal activity. “I wish it would happen. We have a pretty quiet section of town here…I hope it’s a thing that won’t continue.”
Flag Family News reached out to confirm details about the suspicious activity and the other possible garage break-ins, but the city did not immediately respond.
While saying something like this has never taken place in the three years since living on the block, Kohlass says he hopes it’s something that will not continue.
“Find something better to do,” said Kohlhass. “If you’re hard up for money, find a job.”
