Explosive eighth inning powers Twins past Cubs

The Minnesota Twins exploded for six runs in the eighth inning of an 8-1 series opening win over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.

Simeon Woods-Richardson tossed five shutout innings with four strikeouts, eventually earning the win. Danny Coulombe recorded two outs with Brock Stewart recording one out. Cole Sands, Griffin Jax, and Joey Wentz each tossed a full inning out of the bullpen.

Ryan Jeffers hit a home run and drove in three runs while Harrison Bader also hit a homer driving in a pair of runs. Royce Lewis picked up a couple of RBI and Willi Castro hit a solo home run.

The Twins and Cubs will square off again on Wednesday night with first pitch slated for 6:40 p.m. David Festa is scheduled to get the nod for Minnesota while Cade Horton counters for the North siders.
