“We are grateful for his life”: Remembering fallen officer Jake Wallin two years later

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The Fargo community is remembering fallen officer, Jake Wallin, two years after he was killed in the line of duty.

On July 14, 2023, a gunman opened fire on Fargo officers while they responded to a routine traffic collision.

Wallin was shot and killed during the ambush.

The Fargo Police Department held a memorial service today honoring and remembering his life.

Jake Wallin’s family and fiance were at the service, as well as several officers, inlcuding Officer Tyler Hawes and Officer Andrew Dotas, who were both shot that day.

Zach Robinson, the officer who shot the gunman, also attended the memorial service.

“That day, we saw the face of a muderous evil who turned against those who are sworn to protect and serve the people of our good city,” said Pastor Jonas Bundy, Chaplain of the FPD.

He added, “Jake was a brother, son, fiance, and a friend. A brother in uniform. Lord, Jake meant so much to so many.”

Two videos played during the service, including a rememberance of Jake Wallin, and an inside-look of the new officer training room named after him.

Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski led the service and said, “The Wallin’s lost their son in this battle, but we know by looking at his video and watching his mindset and knowing who he was, that while this loss is regrettable, he’s proud that many others were saved that day.”

The service concluded with a memorial bell ringing, the playing of taps, and a lowering of the flag.

“Today, God, we remember his courage and his dedication, and we are grateful for his life,” Pastor Jonas Bundy added.
