Thune says he’s open to Trump call to cancel August recess

(Washington, DC) — Senate Majority Leader John Thune says he’s open to President Trump’s call to cancel the August recess.

According to Thune, he and Trump have discussed the idea after the president urged the GOP leader to keep senators in Washington to quickly confirm his nominees. Thune told reporters that he was considering the move and accused Democrats of breaking precedent by stalling Trump’s other nominees.

The Senate Majority Leader also shared that government funding and the annual National Defense Authorization Act would be on lawmakers’ agenda if the August recess is canceled.
