Two arrested after traffic stop in Mapleton

MAPLETON, ND – Two people were arrested Saturday after one ran while being detained after a traffic stop in Mapleton.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says they stopped a vehicle with expired registration before noon Saturday on Cass County Road 10 and Meridian Road in Mapleton. Law enforcement located narcotics, leading them to remove the male and female occupants of the vehicle in order for a search to be conducted.

While attempting to detain the occupants, one of them, 20-year-old Jabez Beyan, ran from the scene into a residential neighborhood. Additional deputies and the North Dakota Highway Patrol arrived and set up a perimeter.

Due to the large police presence, a Cass-Clay Alert was sent to Mapleton residents.

A tip from the public led the authorities to arrest Beyan a few blocks from the location of the traffic stop.

Beyan faces a charge of refusal to halt and had warrants for probation violations for a second offense of possession of drug paraphernalia along with failure of the 24/7 program. The other occupant, identified as 18-year-old Zannika Wobbema, of Valley City, faces a charge of fictitious registration and citations for no vehicle insurance and possession of marijuana.
