North Dakota residents soon able to get blackout plates

BISMARCK, ND – Beginning Friday, North Dakota drivers will have a new license plate choice.

The new plates are called blackout plates. They were approved by North Dakota’s legislature earlier this year.

Blackout plates offer a clean, bold design that gives vehicles a modern, stylish appearance. Many drivers prefer the high-contrast black-and-white look because it stands out while remaining simple and sleek. The blackout design maintains all required plate elements such as registration decals and identification numbers, ensuring it meets legal standards while offering a bold, updated look.

The fee for a blackout plate is $25 plus applicable registration fees annually. To receive a plate, visit a Motor Vehicle Office or mail the application and fees to the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
