MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota Historical Society has announced it will layoff nearly 40 workers, but that’s not expected to impact The Comstock House in Moorhead.
Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County Executive Director Laura Forde told Flag Family News the money it receives from the Historical Society for hiring isn’t impacted by those cuts.
The Comstock House at Eighth Street and Fifth Avenue, which was built in 1882, was the home of Republican Congressman Solomon Comstock who represented Minnesota from 1889 to 1891. He helped build Bishop Whipple School which became Concordia College and donated land and sponsored a bill leading to establishing Moorhead Normal School, which is now Minnesota State Moorhead. That’s according to the HCSCC.
Comstock is also the namesake for the Clay Co. town that’s about 20 miles south of Moorhead on United States Highway 75 according to the Minnesota Historical Society.
