FARGO, ND – Two Fargo City Commission members are speaking out after Monday’s press conference regarding two deadly weekend shootings.
At the center of their comments was a response to Flag Family News Director Ken Duffy’s questions about safety downtown.
“I could talk about the safety of downtown, and just as well as I could make that statement, you would likely mock me in the media for saying, ‘Well, if it’s so safe, why did the shooting happen,” Zibolski replied to Duffy’s question. “I think we’re talking about a no-win situation with a no-win question, so I’ll leave it at that.”
Commissioner Michelle Turnberg, who served as a television news anchor for several years in the Fargo-Moorhead metro, had some strong words to say when talking about the Monday press conference.
“I thought today’s press conference was extremely disappointing,” she said at Monday night’s City Commission meeting. “I felt you, Police Chief Zibolski, came across smug and arrogant and condescending to those reporters asking questions that residents have been asking all weekend.”
Commissioner Dave Piepkorn called having a press conference the day after an event like Sunday’s ‘embarassing.’
“People didn’t know what the (expletive) to do at 1:30 in the morning,” he said. “We don’t need a day later press conference covering your (expletive).”
He called on the city to make changes.
“It’s time for some new leadership,” Piepkorn concluded.
