FARGO, ND – The chief of Fargo’s Police Department is speaking out about a recent rash of violent crime — including crimes in Fargo’s downtown area.
“To put things into perspective, in 2025 we’ve had a really good year in terms of crime and public safety,” Chief David Zibolski said at a press conference Tuesday morning at Fargo Police Department headquarters. “But we acknowledge that we have had a couple of bad weekends here. These last couple of weekends have kind of been an anomaly compared to the rest of the year.”
According to available data from the Fargo Police Department through July 8 of this year, more than 1,400 arrests have been made across the City of Fargo and more than 5,400 offenses reported.
Of the offenses, 1,092 reported cases of simple assault have resulted in 155 arrests, and 151 reported cases of aggravated assault have resulted in 52 arrests.
Zibolski says he still supports his department as they continue to work diligently to ‘clear these recent violent crimes.’
Jones still at large
The Fargo Police Department is still searching for Tyrque Jones, the man wanted in connection with the murder in the 50 block of Broadway on August 3.
“The best thing for Tyrque Jones to do is to turn himself in to the police department here,” Zibolski said. “Nothing bad will happen to him. We will make sure that his safety is taken care of and we’ll go through the criminal justice process. So the sooner he does that, and maybe he’s got information that he wants to tell us, we’d be happy to listen to that as well.”
When asked if Jones was being aided by anyone to avoid capture by the authorities, Zibolski said it’s ‘hard to say.’
“We’ve got our federal partners working on this as well,” Zibolski said. “They have a real good track record and I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before he is located and arrested. We want that to be a peaceful arrest.”
