More spraying planned to knock down mosquito numbers in rural Cass County

Cass County, N.D. – As West Nile Virus begins to spread in North Dakota, Cass County is planning more rounds of chemical spraying to reduce the mosquito population.

Cass County Vector Control will conduct truck mounted spraying in rural areas on Monday August 18th after 8pm.

In a press release issued on Friday, the county signaled “additional evening applications for next week are still pending.”

The spraying was scheduled on the same day the state reported 26 human cases as of August 14th.

Almost half of those people have landed in the hospital, plus, more than three dozen mosquito pools and a few birds have tested positive statewide.

Late August is historically the busiest time of year for West Nile to spread more rapidly.
