MINNEAPOLIS – A federal judge has struck down a Minnesota law prohibiting a ban on high school students signing statements of faith.
Schools can once again mandate they follow faith-based values and conduct standards to take classes for college credit.
Judge Nancy Brasel ruled in favor of Crown College in Saint Bonifacius and University of Northwestern in Roseville saying the law violated religious freedom protections.
Lawyers for the state of Minnesota defended the former law as a way to protect high school students who are not Christian, heterosexual or cisgender.
Concordia College officials tell Flag Family news they don’t require students to sign statements of faith. The school is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
