Fargo-Cass Public Health loaning fake ID scanners to local liquor establishments

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Many universities are back in session and this means many underage people will be attempting to use fake ID’s to get into liquor establishments.

According to Fargo-Cass Public Health, between 12 and 20 year old’s, 20.7% of them have reported underage drinking in North Dakota compared to the national rate which is 15.4%

Fargo-Cass public health has been given tokens work identi-fake forensic ID scanners from the state of North Dakota.

The scanners can be loaned out for $5,300 for five years to liquor establishments in the area.

The scanners do a 40-50 point inspection of the ID given that checks for correct items such as font size, color of the picture, correct logos, and more.

“If it doesn’t pass all of those security inspections it will flag it as fake and it will list all of the things that did not pass,“ said Robyn Litke Sal, Prevention Coordinator at Fargo-Cass Public Health.

North Dakota does have a law that allows liquor establishments to confiscate an ID if it is identified as fake.

“They just need to call law enforcement within 24 hours to report that they confiscated that fake ID, so the great news about that is once these fake ID’s are detected they are confiscated and they can’t be used anywhere else,“ said Litke Sal.

It is a class B misdemeanor to have a fake ID, display one, or lend it to someone else, which could lead to 30 days in jail and/or a $1,500 fine, and a criminal penalty that goes onto the persons record.
