First on Flag Family: The Flag’s Scott Hennen recalls Charlie Kirk’s first trip to North Dakota that sparked his love for the state

FARGO – Across the country, radio hosts are grieving the loss of one of their own – conservative talk radio host Charlie Kirk.

Kirk died Wednesday after being assassinated while speaking at a Turning Point USA event on his “The American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University. He was 31.

Scott Hennen, host of the What’s On Your Mind radio program on The Flag and Partner at Flag Family Media and Fieldstone Group, a consulting group, recalled Kirk’s first trip to North Dakota.

Kirk spoke to the graduating class at Johnson Corner Christian Academy near Watford City. For one student.

“He was the commencement speaker for one student,” Hennen said. “After he was here for that was the first time I reached out to him and had him on the radio.”

Kirk would return to the state – at least six times. He was scheduled for a return trip in October, where he was set to speak at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for a stop on his tour.

“That’s how much he loved North Dakota,” Hennen said.

The tour was set to make six more stops before that stop in Grand Forks, at places like Montana State University, Utah State University, Virginia Tech and the University of Minnesota, among others.

The Charlie Kirk Show debuted on AM 1100 The Flag WZFG in Fargo and AM 1090 The Flag KTGO in Tioga on Monday, June 21, 2021.
