Minnesota Vikings starting Quarterback JJ McCarthy has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. It comes following Minnesota overcoming an 11-point fourth quarter deficit where McCarthy accounted for three touchdowns in the Vikings 27-24 victory over the Bears.
In the fourth quarter, McCarthy completed 6-of-8 passes for 87 yards with two touchdowns. He added a 14-yard TD run in the final frame.
McCarthy became the first quarterback to orchestrate a 10-plus point fourth quarter comeback win in his NFL debut since Steve Young did so in 1985. 15 Vikings have earned an NFC Player of the Week honor (Offense, Defense Special Teams) over the 52 games under head coach Kevin O’Connell.
McCarthy and the Vikings will welcome the Atlanta Falcons to US Bank Stadium on Sunday with kickoff scheduled for 7:20 p.m. and game coverage available nationally on NBC.
