GLENDALE, ARIZ – Those gathered Sunday afternoon to remember Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk were surprised to hear an announcement during the memorial service.
Dr. Larry Arnn, President of Hillsdale College, was one of the featured speakers. And as part of his remarks, he had a surprise no one was expecting, not even the widow of Kirk, Erika.
The first was that a scholarship had been set up for Kirk’s children “in the hope that Charlie’s children will go to a good college.”
“I have one in mind,” Dr. Arnn said, drawing an applause from the crowd that topped 100,000.
But the announcement didn’t end there.
“This May the 9th, Erika doesn’t know this yet, we’re going to give Charlie and Erika the greatest respect a college can give,” he said. “An honorary degree.”
The late Kirk had taken classes at the college but hadn’t graduated with a degree. But, in the end, Arnn said Kirk ‘had suffered enough.’
“He has gone to the lord,” he said. “He deserves his reward.”
