Twins defeat Rangers in series opener

The Minnesota Twins defeated the Texas Rangers 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Zebby Matthews struck out six batters over seven innings while only giving up one run en route to earning the win. Kody Funderburk tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Cole Sands picked up the save with a shutout inning.

Byron Buxton, Austin Martin, Ryan Jeffers, and Kody Clemens drove in a run apiece.

The Twins and Rangers will continue their series tonight with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Taj Bradley is scheduled to be on the mound for Minnesota with Jacob deGrom countering for Texas.

Minnesota now has a record of 68-89 on the season.
