One dead after freight train collides with combine on tracks near Page ND

PAGE, N.D. – At least one person is dead after a freight train collided with a piece of farm equipment that was on the tracks Thursday morning near Page.

On social media, North Dakota Highway Patrol says a BNSF train hit a combine at 133rd Avenue SE between 16th and 17th Street SE just before 11 a.m..

That’s about five miles northwest of Page.

Authorities say the locomotive caught fire, causing around 20 cars to derail and spill cargo.

NDHP says the train engineer and conductor escaped safely, but the 33-year old combine driver died from injuries.

Drivers are advised to avoid that area as crew clear the scene.

In a press release, NDHP says the roadway north and south of the tracks along 133rd Ave. SE could be closed for up to two days for cleanup.
