FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A Fargo man is facing felony charges after biting a police officer during a domestic disturbance call that escalated into a physical confrontation.
Cante Redstone was arrested around 5:25 P.M. on October 9, after officers were called to remove him from a residence where he no longer lived.
According to court documents, police were asked to remove Redstone from an apartment at 704 23rd St. While officers were on their way to the scene, dispatch reported that the situation had escalated and that Redstone had become increasingly aggressive.
Previous Police Contact
The officer who filed this report noted their that he recognized Redstone from a previous encounter. During that incident, Redstone reportedly made threatening gestures towards police, pointing his fingers in the shape of a gun.
When they arrived at the apartment, they say Redstone appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. After being told to leave, Redstone allegedly refused and attempted to go into a back bedroom.
Physical Confrontation
Officers attempted to guide Redstone out of the apartment, but Redstone resisted and tried to go back into the apartment. At that point, officers decided to place Redstone in handcuffs.
Redstone began to actively resist arrest, so officers took him to the ground to gain control. During that struggle, the officer notes that he felt a sudden pain in his calf and looked down to see that Redstone had bitten his leg and was attempting to bite him again.
Redstone was handcuffed and a hobble was placed on his legs. He remained uncooperative even after being placed in the squad vehicle to be taken to the Cass County Jail.
Redstone is now charged with two felony counts for this incident, one for simple assault of a peace officer and another for preventing arrest. He is set to be arraigned in the afternoon of October 10.
