Convention Center committee delays question-and-answer sessions with developers

FARGO – The Fargo Convention Center Committee is delaying a question-and-answer session with the four developers set to move forward in the process of creating the city’s new convention center.

On Friday, committee members shared concerns regarding the need for developers to consult with city staff on several concerns regarding the four sites. For example, at the FargoDome, Civic Quad and Scheels Arena sites, City of Fargo traffic engineer Jeremy Gorden shared concerns regarding potential congestion issues that could be raised at each of those sites.

“If we don’t address the fundamentals, or the city doesn’t address and feel comfortable, really, sort of, in my opinion, stops some things,” Greater Fargo-Moorhead EDC President and CEO Joe Raso said. “So, having a Q and A scheduled right now may be premature based on what we just heard.”

Fargo City Commissioner Michelle Turnberg raised questions regarding who would be responsible for costs such as moving sewer lines and lift stations.

City Engineer Tom Knakmuhs said the cost to move the infrastructure would be in excess of one million dollars.

Scheels Arena and the FargoDome will present in front of the committee on October 31. The other two sites, the Civic Quad and Brewhalla, will present on October 24.
