The Minnesota Vikings are placing QB Carson Wentz in the IR after he sustained multiple injuries over the past handful of weeks.
Minnesota Vikings beat reporter for ESPN, Kevin Seifert, is reporting that Wentz is having season-ending surgery on his left shoulder to repair an injury that was originally sustained back on October 5. Wentz played multiple games with a dislocated left shoulder that also included a torn labrum along with a fractured socket.
As of right now J.J. McCarthy is expected to start under center for Minnesota on Sunday afternoon. McCarthy last played in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons. He missed the past six weeks with a high ankle sprain suffered in that loss to Atlanta.
The Vikings currently only have two QB’s on the active roster in McCarthy and Rookie Max Brosmer.
Brett Rypien, who was waived in Training Camp is currently on the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad. Free agent Desmond Ridder spend a few weeks with Minnesota earlier in the season before being cut. The Vikings will certainly need to add a third QB to the roster in a coming days, will is be one of Rypien/Ridder of another QB through either free agency or a trade? The NFL’s trade deadline is on Tuesday, November 4 at 3 p.m. central time.
The 3-4 Vikings will now head to Detroit for a battle with the Lions on Sunday, November 2 with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m. and game coverage available on FOX.
