FARGO – Fargo Police say a man has been arrested in connection with the homicide Monday night in Fargo.
According to police, 26-year-old Levi Larteh, of Fargo, was arrested at a gas station in Barnesville by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the jail at after 1 p.m., according to records from the Clay County Jail.
The Fargo Police Department says the arrest came ‘very shortly’ after probable cause was established for Larteh’s arrest in the murder of 28-year-old Nadine Khoury.
Police say he died as a result of gunshot injuries. He leaves behind a pregnant wife, mother, sister and other family members.
Officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of 41st Street South, near the Anderson Softball Complex. Officers found Khoury with an apparent gunshot wound. He was in one of the building’s stairwells and a bystander was providing aid. Officers relieved the bystander until it was cleared for fire and ambulance crews to arrive.
Khoury is not believed to have lived in the apartment complex.
Monday’s homicide is likely related to a shots fired call from this past weekend in south Fargo. Authorities say they believe the victim was present, though his involvement is under investigation.
“The Fargo Police Department has worked very hard to gather evidence, identify persons of interest, gather witness statements and ultimately develop probable cause to make an arrest in this case,” the department said in a press release. “This has been a collaborative effort across all divisions within the FPD, as well as our regional partners. We would like to thank the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Barnesville Police Department for their help in this case which led to the arrest of Larteh.”
Larteh is in the Clay County Jail on a murder charge. According to court records, he has previous convictions in Cass County.
Fargo Police held a press conference at 11 a.m. Tuesday and, at that time, said no suspect was in custody — but persons of interest had been identified. They announced the arrest in a press release at 4:15 p.m. that the arrest had taken place at 10:46 a.m.
“Detectives were working very hard this morning to develop leads and identify potential suspects. I received updates throughout the morning and got an update at about 10:30 a.m. prior to the press conference. Probable cause was established after I received that update, and Larteh was located very shortly thereafter by Clay County deputies,” Captain Matt Christensen said. “I was not aware of that development until after the press conference was complete.”
