WASHINGTON – In an interview with Scott Hennen on The Flag, Republican North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak said Democrats are giving “hurtful misinformation intentionally directed to scare people” on Obamacare enhanced premium tax credits.
In passing the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, Congress extended the credits through December 31, 2025 to people with incomes above 400% of the federal poverty line. According to HealthCare.gov, that’s someone making $62,600 or a family of four with an income of $128,600.
Democratic Senators want Republicans to agree to extending the credits in order to stop the government shutdown.
“All of the other Obamacare tax credits are not subject to this expiration date. Most of the people who are talking about being scared about losing their tax credits, they will not be impacted,” Fedorchak explained.
Eighty-nine thousand six hundred Minnesotans receive the enhanced premium tax credits according to Democratic Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar. She said on her website eligible Minnesota households have an annual Obamacare tax credit of $6,518.
Fedorchak called the tax credits costly adding they cover five percent of the 20 to 30 percent increase in health insurance premiums.
She said Obamacare needs to be repealed.
“We need to totally reform the system so patients are put in the driver’s seat. That we put [people] in the driver’s seat making the choices of what they think is right for their healthcare and helping to provide cost containment on the system,” Fedorchak said.
