Man shot & killed by police outside a Dickinson hospital

DICKINSON, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Police fatally shot a 34-year-old man Monday evening outside St. Alexius Hospital after authorities say he fired a weapon multiple times near the emergency room.

Around 5 p.m., friends and family called police asking for a welfare check after the man made concerning comments, according to Dickinson Police.

Police found the man near the west parking lot of the hospital’s ER.

According to witness reports, the man had fired a gun several times outside the ER before officers arrived.

Officers established a perimeter and attempted to persuade the man to drop the gun and accept their help.

One officer shot the man after perceiving an immediate lethal threat during their communication.

The man suffered a fatal injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations is handling this investigation.

Police placed the officer on administrative leave pending the investigation’s outcome.

No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
