Health insurer UCare to shut down

MINNEAPOLIS – UCare plans to shut down next year.

The Minneapolis-based nonprofit insurer says nearly 300,000 people receiving Medicaid and Affordable Care Act benefits will be shifted to Medica. UCare has announced the end of its Medicare Advantage plans for next year.

There is no word yet on what will happen to UCare’s more than 1,400 employees, even though Medica said it will need more employees to handle the expected enrollment numbers.
