LRC and Thanksgiving week

A very busy travel week is right around the corner and many people are travelling so the weather could make a BIG impact on potential travel.  Right now it looks pretty quiet up through early next week before big changes appear around Thanksgiving and shortly afterwards with much colder air pouring in from Canada.  Here’s a look at temps just after Thanksgiving

Currently, I don’t foresee any big travel issues BEFORE Thanksgiving, but after Thanksgiving may be a different story.  More on that in the days to come.

I’ve had a few questions about the LRC and everything is now starting to unfold.  Keep in mind you will hear terms like La Nina, AO, MJO that will supposedly determine our winter, however, the LRC is the center piece to the puzzle to determine what the winter will hold:

Now lets take a look at what has happened from the start of the LRC cycle until now.  Precip trends have been above normal from the desert SW into ND:

While temperature trend is mild across most of the country:

Will the mild trend continue through the rest of the winter?  Will the near normal precip for the F/M area continue through winter or will we slip into drought conditions?  All of this will become more clear within the coming week.   Be sure to tune in to our Winter Weather Outlook on Dec. 5th for a more in depth look into our winter:
