BISMARCK – North Dakota’s new state superintendent of public education has officially taken office.
Levi Bachmeier started in his new role at 8 a.m. this morning, after former superintendent Kirsten Baesler retired from state government.
Bachmeier is the former business manager for the West Fargo Public School District, where he had served since 2019. Prior to his tenure in West Fargo, he taught at Crazy Horse School in South Dakota, before joining state government as a policy advisor for former Governor Doug Burgum. He then became director of the governor’s policy team.
Bachmeier, in his first day in office, said he’s planning to visit every North Dakota school district. Those visits will begin in early December with a trip to the state’s smallest district, Marmarth, in southwestern North Dakota.
