FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The man accused of killing his brother waived his detention hearing scheduled for Nov. 24, one week after the remains of Isaac Hunt were found on the Spirit Lake Reservation.

D’Angelo Hunt made his first court appearance via Zoom on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

In his first court appearance, the judge explained the second-degree murder charge in the criminal complaint to Hunt. The maximum sentence if he is found guilty is life in prison.

DNA evidence from their father’s home links both brothers to a violent fight on March 3, 2024, according to federal prosecutors.

Blood found on a TV stand matched Hunt’s DNA profile, while blood recovered from the living room subfloor matched the victim’s DNA.

A special agent with the FBI wrote in the affidavit that carpet had been removed from the living room between early March searches and a follow-up visit on March 17, 2024.

Isaac Hunt was reported missing by his family on March 15, 2024. On Nov. 15, 2025, a search effort for Hunt on the Spirit Lake Reservation took place. On Nov. 17, 2025, the Spirit Lake Tribe confirmed that remains found during that search were those of Isaac Hunt.

Prosecutors asked the judge on Nov. 18, 2025, to keep Hunt jailed until trial, citing him as a community risk and flight risk.

At this time, there are no future federal court dates scheduled for D’Angelo Hunt.

Hunt can request a detention hearing in the future.
