Fedorchak introduces bill banning electric customers from paying increased costs for other states’ green energy policies

WASHINGTON – North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak has introduced the Fair Act that would ban electric customers from paying increased costs because of polices from states they don’t live in.

Minnesota has a large process with Midcontinent Independent System Operator to update the region’s power grid. This is part of the state’s plan to reduce carbon emissions. MISO covers 15 states including Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Fedorchak says Minnesota’s “green energy mandate” requires building massive amounts of transmission that pulls energy in from other states.

“It would make the states think twice about some of their policies if they had to bear the full cost of them themselves. I think it would help reduce the increase in cost that people across our country are seeing in their energy rates,” Fedorchak said on The Flag.

The North Dakota Attorney General’s Office filed a complaint about the MISO upgrades saying people in the state shouldn’t have to pay higher electricity rates to subsidize Minnesota’s energy goals.
