Funeral to be held at Fargo Nat’l Cemetery for Marine veteran with no known family

HARWOOD, N.D. – A funeral will be held at Fargo National Cemetery for a veteran with no known family or friends.

The service for Rickey Allen Boyd will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 3.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1977 to 1980 and died at age 66 in December 2024.

United Patriotic Bodies and Fargo Memorial Honor Guard Commander Jason Hicks says his organizations help unclaimed veterans like Boyd by giving them a funeral once funeral homes exhaust all options to find their families.

“It’s one thing we do to recognize their service and to ensure that it’s not forgotten,” Hicks explained on The Flag.

Hicks said Boyd enlisted in the Marines in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but he doesn’t have information on how he died.

“It’s actually quite shocking how often this comes up for us. I know for certain the funeral homes have numerous veteran remains that they’re holding onto in the hope that they maybe can contact somebody,” Hicks said.

Anyone who wants to thank Boyd for his service to our country is invited to attend his funeral.
