Former Minneapolis police officer seeking to overturn murder conviction

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN — Derek Chauvin is seeking to overturn his second-degree murder conviction in the killing of George Floyd.

On November 20th, the former Minneapolis police officer filed another petition for post conviction relief in Hennepin County District Court. Chauvin argues his conviction should be vacated and he should either be given a new trial or an evidentiary hearing over what he claims was faulty testimony over Floyd’s death. In 2021, Chauvin was convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter and sentenced to 22-and-a-half years in prison.

He’s set to be released in 2035.
