Listen: North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer on The Flag.
WASHINGTON – On The Flag, North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer said he’s not concerned about the military striking alleged drug boats in the ocean.
In September, Navy Admiral Frank Bradley authorized a second strike on an alleged drug boat to kill survivors of the first. He briefed Congress on the incident on Thursday, December 4. Bradley told lawmakers there was no ‘kill them all” order from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Some legal experts say the “double tap” strike could be a war crime.
“Everything they’re doing is both legal and moral. I’m more comfortable with every briefing that we’re on solid ground,” Cramer, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said. “And, by the way, I’m really tired of people asking me ‘Do you think that the president is going to fire Pete Hegseth?’ to which I say I think Pete Hegseth is in really good standing with the president right now.”
Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, Democratic Congressman Adam Smith of Washington, called the two strike incident is deeply concerning.
“The order was basically: Destroy the drugs, kill the 11 people on the boat,” Smith explained.
