FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Gasoline prices in North Dakota have slipped below $3 per gallon this month, marking a level motorists in the state have not consistently seen since before 2021.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the state average for all grades and formulations dropped from $2.98 a gallon in the first week of December to $2.94 in the second week. That’s a noticeable decline from the last week of November, when prices averaged just over $3.06 a gallon.

The American Automobile Association reports North Dakota’s average at $2.64 per gallon, compared to the national average of $2.90.

Looking ahead, the Energy Information Administration says national gasoline prices are expected to keep falling, projecting a decline of about 11 cents in 2025 and another 18 cents in 2026. The EIA credits lower crude oil prices and the gradual adoption of more fuel-efficient vehicles for much of the expected drop. However, the agency cautions that refinery constraints could slow the pace of decreases.

Analysts say drivers in North Dakota can expect continued regional variation: local taxes, seasonal demand shifts and distribution costs will affect pump prices from one community to the next. Still, the broader trend points to cheaper gasoline for many motorists in the coming year.
