Fargo City Commission moves towards governance change of Fargo Youth Initiative

FARGO, N.D. — The Fargo Youth Initiative (FYI) is moving towards a new governance model.

At the Fargo City Commission meeting Monday night, members heard an update from city staff that the Fargo Public School District, with help from the Boys and Girls Club of the Red River Valley, is interested in taking over the oversight of the FYI.

Isabella Meyer, who chairs the initiative, told City Commissioners on Monday that they’re looking forward to the potential for a change to broaden their work.

“With this evolution, we would be able to broaden our horizons to work moreso with issues outside of the city,” she said. “Working with entities such as the (Fargo) school board and with Fargo Public Schools a little bit more, engaging in issues that involve youth.”

The Commission voted unanimously to begin working on agreements with the Fargo Public School District to take over the oversight of the board, with help from the Boys and Girls Club of the Red River Valley.
