LISTEN: Tim Flakoll’s interview with Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Kirsten Baesler
NORTH DAKOTA – The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction receives a 10 million dollar award from the U.S. Department of Education’s Education Innovation and Research Program.
Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Kirsten Baesler recused herself from voting on if the state would get the grant since she applied for it when she was ND DPI’s Superintendent.
She says 65% of the 24 awards of more than $167 million will support projects in rural America.
“It’s a deep commitment of this administration, of [Education] Secretary [Linda] McMahon and all of us working with her is to strengthen literacy outcomes in schools across America, support rural America in a way that’s never been done and return education to the states,” Baesler said on WDAY Radio.
