Minnesota State Moorhead women’s basketball Sophomore guard, Ashton Safranski, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s North Division Player of the Week. The honor is for the week of January 12 thru January 18.
In two games during the week, Safranski averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. She shot 42 percent from the field overall and 36 percent from three-point range.
Additionally, Southwest Minnesota State’s Audrey Swanson earned the NSIC South Division Player of the Week honors. Swanson average 20.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in a pair of wins for the Mustangs. Safranski and Swanson were joined by Minnesota State Mankato’s Natalie Bremer, SMSU’s Natalie Nielsen, and Wayne State College’s Kylah vanDonkersgoed in the NSIC’s Shining Five for the week of January 12.
Sanfranski and the Dragons will hit the road for a pair of cross division NSIC bouts this weekend. MSUM will head to Marshall, MN on Friday to battle the SMSU Mustangs with the tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Then on Saturday the Dragons will visit Sioux Falls to square off with the USF Cougars. Saturday’s game will have full coverage available on The Flag (AM 1100 / FM 92.3) beginning with the pregame at 2:30 p.m. and the tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
