Rep. Lefor announces retirement from North Dakota legislature

DICKINSON, N.D. – North Dakota’s House Majority Leader has announced he will not seek reelection to the North Dakota House.

Representative Mike Lefor, of Dickinson, has served in the North Dakota House since 2015 and has been the Majority Leader since the 2023 session. He also served as the Majority Caucus Leader in the 2017 session.

“After much reflection and conversations with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election to the North Dakota House of Representatives in 2026 and will retire from legislative service at the conclusion of my current term,” he said in a statement obtained by Flag Family News. “Serving the people of District 37 and the state of North Dakota has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”

Lefor has served in many capacities in both community and state organizations.

“Each role has reinforced my belief in public service and strong local leadership,” he said. “I am especially grateful to the citizens of District 37 for their encouragement and support throughout the years.”

Lefor said he remains committed to North Dakota and his community.

“I look forward to supporting the next group of leaders and continuing to contribute in ways outside of public office,” he said. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together and remain optimistic about the future of District 37 and the great state of North Dakota.”
