CASS COUNTY, N.D. – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office warns of scams involving community service, bond payments and arrest warrants.
Authorities say scammers are calling people saying they’re a deputy and that their family member, who’s in jail, qualifies for the county’s Community Service Unit. They ask for money before the person can take part in the program.
The Sheriff’s Office says a deputy will never call someone to ask for payment over the phone adding that can only be done online or by handing over cash or a money order at the jail.
Another scam involves a person calling from what looks like a legitimate number for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office asking people to pay a jailed family member’s bond. The Sheriff’s Office says the jail doesn’t accept bond payments over the phone, by text message or through any digital payment app.

In another scam, someone calls saying a person missed jury duty or is accused of committing a crime and has a warrant. The scammer asks for payment over the phone, which the Sheriff’s Office says will never be done.
If you receive any of these calls, you’re asked to call the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 701-241-5800.
