ENDERLIN, N.D. – An Enderlin man announces a bid for a spot on North Dakota’s Public Service Commission.
Deven Styczynski announced Monday he’s running for the six-year term on the PSC, currently held by Sheri Haugen-Hoffart. He said he is entering the race to bring a fresh perspective and stronger oversight of utility companies amid rising energy costs.
“North Dakotans deserve affordable, reliable energy without constant rate hikes that burden families, farmers, and small businesses,” Styczynski said. “Recent approvals, like the Xcel Energy increase that many called excessive, show the need for tougher scrutiny of utility requests and a greater focus on protecting consumers. I’m running because the current approach isn’t delivering the relief people expect from their regulators.”
His campaign will focus on several key priorities:
- Stronger scrutiny of utility rate increase requests to prevent unnecessary financial burdens on consumers.
- Ensuring reliable service and responsible infrastructure investment that benefits North Dakotans first.
- Greater transparency and public input in major regulatory decisions involving pipelines, transmission lines, and power generation.
- Balancing energy development with affordability in a state known for its abundant resources.
“I’m not a career politician—I’m a North Dakotan who’s frustrated seeing hardworking people pay more for essentials while utilities report strong profits,” Styczynski added. “The Public Service Commission should be a watchdog for consumers, not a rubber stamp. I will fight for commonsense regulation that keeps energy affordable while maintaining the strength of our industry.”
