NDSU president candidate Dr. Bernie Savarese shares thoughts on continuing the university’s success

FARGO, N.D. – Finalist for president at North Dakota State University Dr. Bernie Savarese shares he’s excited about the university because it’s a land grant, research one institution.

The University of Tennessee vice president for academic affairs, research and student success said there’s only 52 four-year schools nationwide with that designation.

“This university delivers real world solutions in ag[riculture] and agtech, material sciences, biomedical, rural health. How can we double down on those areas, but continue to expand in places where we know there are needs across our community?” Savarese asked.

Savarese wants to continue NDSU’s success by improving its 78% student retention rate and pathways for working learners.

The new NDSU president is expected to be selected on March 30 and begin working at the university in June.
