Cass County Sheriff shares updates in Absaraka illegal immigrant situation

CASS COUNTY, ND — Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner says a local construction company is the owner of a home that currently houses 11 illegal immigrants in Absaraka.

Sheriff Jahner shared the information on the Need to Know Morning Show Monday morning. The property is the center of a controversy, after authorities recently discovered the presence of 11 illegal immigrants on site, who apparently live on location. The Sheriff has also expressed his frustrations in attempting to work with federal border security agencies, with some citing the recent “political climate” as the reason for not being able to intervene.

“The residence was purchased by an individual who has got a few properties that they’ve purchased. They own a construction company. Through our investigation we’ve learned they are using the properties to house people that assist with construction work,” said Jahner.

Speaking on cooperation from federal law enforcement, Jahner says little has changed regarding assistance in resolving the incident. However, the sheriff did point to unnamed local and state agencies, who he says have spoken to him about possible law changes in the upcoming legislative session.
