(Bismarck, ND) — A state lawmaker has been convicted of a misdemeanor in connection with a state-leased building he owns.
Bismarck Republican Representative Jason Dockter was charged in December with speculating or wagering on official action, and he pleaded not guilty. The charge has a maximum penalty of 360 days in jail and or a $3,000 fine. Dockter has a 12.5% share in the business that leases to the Attorney General’s office. In casting his vote to approve the budget for the office, a jury found he went against house rules which prohibit legislators from voting if they have a “personal or private interest.”
Dockter says he’s considering an appeal.
