Moorhead Middle Schools students create giant Spuddy art piece to celebrate 150th year anniversary

(Moorhead, MN) — A celebration of Moorhead Public Schools’ 150th birthday led to the unveiling of a project depicting the district’s potato mascot.

The 16x12ft display depicts Spuddy, the mascot for Moorhead Area Public Schools, and was created by students over several months. Created using parachute chord cross-stitched together by approximately 600 middle school students, the art piece was is now proudly displayed at the Horizon Middle School West Campus.

Art teachers Trudy Stubson and Samantha Saarion created the outline for the project. They spoke to the hundreds of students, parents, current and former teachers, in front of the display as a celebration of the school’s history.
