Fargo Commissioners spar over winter warming program vote “Do we just start letting people freeze to death?”

FARGO – Fargo City Commissioners have voted to approve staffing of the Winter Warming Program to provide the homeless with a safe, overnight shelter from freezing temperatures this winter.

The vote was not unanimous. Commissioners Dave Piepkorn and Michelle Turnberg voted against it. Piepkorn did not mince words, saying “we have to start cleaning up this city. It’s turning into a craphole.”

Commissioner John Strand asked the two “What are our options?” “Do we just start letting people freeze to death?”

A majority of the Commissioners voted in favor of the Winter Warming plan 3-2, with both Michelle Turnberg and Dave Piepkorn against it.
