Dozens of ND drivers pulled over for DUI during statewide campaign

Statewide N.D. – More than a hundred people were cited for alcohol-related offenses during a recent statewide campaign to reduce drunk driving in North Dakota.

The state Department of Transportation says more than half of the drivers pulled over were arrested for driving under the influence.

Specifically, 57 people were taken into custody for DUI.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative began on Dec. 13 and lasted for seven weeks in hopes of deterring people from driving while impaired.

Some of the other infractions included consumption, possession and open container violations.

16 other drivers were arrested for drug-related offenses.

In 2023, the state says alcohol played a role in more than a third of total fatal crashes in North Dakota

The effort was part of NDDOT’s Vision Zero plan to lower all vehicle-related traffic deaths.
