Library’s Free Summer Reading Challenge Begins June 7th

(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Public Library’s 2021 summer reading challenge, "Tails and Tales," starts Monday, June 7th.

This year’s theme celebrates all types of stories and storytelling and offers a summer filled with engaging books, activities and events for all ages. The free program runs through Aug. 21st and people of all ages can participate by reading, attending events and completing challenges.

Kids and families are invited to jump start their summer by attending the “Tails and Tales” themed kick-off event at the Red River Zoo Monday, June 7th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library, in partnership with the Red River Zoo, will provide free admission for kids ages 0-14 to the zoo during the event. Open to kids of all ages, this event will feature animal-themed storytimes, a zoo scavenger-hunt activity and crafts. Kids will also be able to register for the Summer Reading Challenge to get started reading. Admission to the zoo for adults and teens (ages 15 and older) is $11.25 per person.

This summer, the library aims to offer a summer filled with fantastic stories, weekly special events, in-person performances and activities along with virtual events for all ages – kids, teens and adults. Residents do not need to be registered for the online program to attend Fargo Public Library events.

Pre-registration for the summer reading challenge is now open, and readers can join the program any time until Aug. 21st. The library’s summer literacy program will use Beanstack, an online service designed for readers of all ages to log the days and time they spend reading to earn free prizes for their efforts.

To participate in the library’s summer reading incentive program, click here or pick up an official book log at any Fargo Public Library location beginning June 7th; all participants need to register to take part. Paper reading logs will be available; however, patrons are encouraged to use the online format if possible. Online registration with Beanstack is accessible via web browser, Apple or Android apps.
